University of Alabama Health Services Foundation

Updated: Aug 1, 2018

The University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF) Administration Building was conceived to consolidate foundation offices and spaces formerly scattered around downtown Birmingham. Sited in the 4th Avenue block to serve as a companion facility to UAHSF’s Kirklin Clinic, the design and materials have been implemented to modernize the block without overwhelming it. Although the new building features a stunning entrance canopy, an abundance of glass, ribbon windows, and precast concrete, the context of adjacent buildings and integrity of the community has been considered in the building’s development.

Typical health service offices include those for obstetrics/gynecology, radiology, and anesthesiology practices. The greater portion of the space is reserved for the foundation’s Human Resources offices and a 50,000 square foot Organ Donation Center. Landscaping has been added with attention to detail which helps further the design concept. Parking is provided by existing sources including the deck originally designed to support traffic for the Kirklin Clinic and expanding health services.
