Providence

Woodway Medical Plaza

PROJECT DETAILS

The Providence Woodway Medical Plaza was designed to support Ascension Health’s Providence Healthcare Network and referring physicians in Waco, Texas. From inception, the building was planned to serve as a gateway to the campus, with a clear sense of entry, approach, and visibility from major traffic arteries. Upon arrival, easy access, clear wayfinding, and efficient organization responding to patient needs were paramount in the planning process.

The new building is clad with a local limestone and features a metal canopy where patients can be dropped off conveniently first floor tenants. Patient registration is provided by “greeters,” equipped with mobile registration devices. The interior finishes and artwork were selected for their warm regional colors creating a “local” feel indigenous to the Waco area. For example, the therapy pool has a wood coffered ceiling created by using large wood beams with a raised wood plank ceiling. The grand metal canopy and ambient lighting provide a welcoming building entrance leading to a large, open waiting area shared by undercover.

Adult and Children’s Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Imaging, and a retail Pharmacy are located on the First Floor. An outdoor play area, conveniently located adjacent to Children’s Physical Therapy, has a rehab purpose. Each clinical function has its own dedicated space for check out and re-appointment. The Second Floor is occupied by Pediatrics, Pediatrics Specialists, and Family Practice. The large Family Practice suite is organized using “exam pods” with same-handed exam rooms in every exam space.
